History

Welcome to Papermill Fishery.

The Lake was created in 1994 by owners Mark and Debbie Vickery. Over the last 15 years it has matured into a well run and established fishery with a friendly, family orientated atmosphere.

It is an ideal lake for all levels of anglers from beginners to experts, with free tuition on the weekends for fly and/or worm anglers. Fly fisherman have access to all areas of the lake, while the worm anglers have limited access to the left hand side of the lake only.

The lake is trickled stocked on a daily basis with a base stock of 1lb1/2, 2lb and 3lb rainbow trout and various sizes of larger fish. The fishery record currently stands at 15lb 4oz.

27th November 2011Now the colder weather is here, fish are fighting hard. There have been a lot of big fish seen crusing around the lake, best flys of the week have been buzzers fished under a sight bob indicator. There will be more big fish introduced every week in the run up to Christmas. This year there will be no boxing day competition but we will be open as normal on this day from 8am untill 1pm for anybody wanting to fish.Anybody interested in evening fishing please contact the fishery on : 07814741252There are new photos uploaded of fish in the album photo gallery. Hope you enjoy looking at the photos.31st March 2011Spring is here, and evening fishing will be starting the first week of May at Papermill. Evening fishing is a great opportunity to experience fishing different patterns as the fish start to feed off the surface. Evening fishing hours will be from 5pm till 9pm on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.Just to remind anglers anyone fishing on the worm will have to purchase worms from the fishery.There have been some great catches of big fish ranging from 8 to 10lb in weight, the best flys have been : olive hothead damsel, cats whisker, black and green fritz and olive green stalking bug.Gallery has been updated but there are still more photos to come, so keep an eye out.19th September 2010Over the past few weeks there have been quite alot of big fish coming out ranging from 5lb in weight to 9lb. There has been no set pattern of flies that the fish want to take or depths to fish, flies that have caught fish have been Buzzers, Dawl Bachs, Cats Whiskers and Damsels. In the coming weeks will be the time to start using Daddy Long Legs, on the 25th of September now the temperatures have started to cool we will be starting to stock our double figure rainbows, we will also be stocking a tagged fish worth a £150 for any angler which catches this big prize fish so turn up early to secure your place.Go to Photo Gallery for all new updated pictures.Anybody who is intersted in fishing in the winter evenings which will be under flood lights please email us through the website or contact : 07814741252 If we get enough anglers interested for this we will start the league in October, there will be 3 flood lit matches, one in October, One in November and one in December who ever has the heaviest bag out of all the matches and the heaviest fish will win a cash prize and a Christmas turkey before Christmas. 13th June 2010Even though the hot weather is upon us the lake is in prime condition, and we are not suffering with high density of weed that alot of other lakes suffer with at this time of the year. Fish have been feeding at various depths due to the weather, alot of fish have been taken off the surface with may flies buzzers especially when the sun goes behind the clouds and fish start to surface and feed. When the temperatures start to rise again intermediate or sinking lines are best to use. There are alot of 4, 5, 6, 7 pound rainbows being caught although the double figure fish that have been stocked still seem to be evading anglers by either snapping them off or throwing the hook when about to be laneded. This weekend there will be alot more bigger fish being stocked.Go on to gallery 3 to have a look at the photos, it has been updated with the most recent fish that have been caught at Papermill.Evening Fishing.Our evening fishing will be starting on Tuesday the 4th of May 2010. From the 4th May every Tuesday and Thursday there will be evening fishing for the fly and worm on both evenings. The website has now got new pictures of the fish that have been caught lately at Papermill.27th January 2010Big fish on the move again , Gavin Evans who is a regular at the fishery has got to be the luckiest person yet again he was into a large fish this fish was giving him the run around it was taking him from one side of the lake to the other, all I could hear from Gavin was a few curse words when the fish jumped out of the water. Gavin thought this was it for him when the fish decided to head for the weed beds, but he finally managed to get the fish in and land it. The fish weighed in at 8lb 15oz caught on a christmas tree fly, Gavins words were "The way that fish put up a fight you swear it was a 20lb fish"And my remark to him was "You can always dream of that bigger fish, because you never know what lurks in the bottom of the lake and what will be caught"This weekend more big fish will be put in to the lake, dont miss out on your opportunity to catch one of these hard fighting fish!24th January 2010What a fantastic days fishing Robert Phipps had. Fishing started off slow with the cold temperatures but when the sun came out and warmed up the water layers Rob was into a big fish. It took him some time to land this fully finned superbly conditioned rainbow trout weighing in at 9lb 7oz caught on a olive green tinhead. Not to be outdone Chris Moore shouted over to say he was in to a large fish which took him sometime to net , and this also weighed in a 9lb caught on a olive green damsel.No sooner had the fish been weighed, there was another shout from Rob who was fishing the top end of the lake and to get the scales ready because he was into another big fish! This fish also weighed in at 9lb 4oz and was caught on a olive green tinhead.Theres nothing else to say except that all anglers had a fantastic days fishing! 23rd January 2010The weather lately has been very cold and frosty but come mid morning when the sun starts to warm the layers, this seems to be when the big fish start to move to feed. Darren Lewis caught a hard fighting rainbow weighing in at 5lb 8oz which was caught on a orange fritz.19th January 2010Lake re-opened after the big freeze, larger fish have started to feed although they are remaining very deep intermediate lines and sinking lines have worked very well.Angler Gavin Evans caught a cracking 8lb rainbow on a white fritz, and on the worm Roy Collins caught a superb 7lb 15oz rainbow.28th December 2009Latest news, Fly Fishing Competition delight for Stuart Jones as he blows opersition away and lands a 13lb 2oz rainbow 3 hours into a 4 hour match. And a yellow fritz done the trick. Papermill will be open on the 29th, 30th and the 31st of December, on the 31st of December we will be closing at 2.00pm. We have stocked alot of big fish for the festive break and look forward to seeing you tackle some of our big fish this week.We will be open as normal on the 2nd and 3rd of January 2010. Evening fishing sessions start at 5.00pm til dusk from Tuesday to Friday by BOOKING ONLY, minimum of three persons.

Fishery Rules

Fishery Rules

General Rules

1. A rod license is required

2. No sharing of rods

3. No alcohol allowed on the premises

4. All bags must be checked and signed out before leaving

5. Management reserve the right to carry out random checks on anglers cars whilst fishing on the premises

6. Please do not leave line or litter on the banks or throw away cigarette ends into the lake, please use the bins

Rules for Fly Fishing

7. Single fly only - no boobies and no egg flies

8. Whilst on a Catch and Release Ticket, barbless hooks must be used or barbs must be flattened.

9. Any person releasing a Rainbow Trout whilst on a Catch and Release ticket will be banned

Rules for Worm Fishing

10. No ground bating.

11. Small bubble float or stick float or fish on the bottom.

12. No fish to be released back into the lake.

13. No spinning

14. Worm only, any anglers caught using any other bait will be banned.

15. One rod only per angler to be used.

The Fishery does not accept any responsibility for events beyond their control such as disease, drought or flood that may prevent fishing. Any person entering Paper Mill Trout Fishery do so at their own risk. The management accepts no responsibility for any injury, loss or damage suffered by such persons or for any claims or liabilities which may be occasioned by an action be it of natural causes or otherwise.

Getting to paper mill fishery

Take junction 47 off the M4 then take the second exit at the roundabout heading into Swansea. Bare left at the next roundabout then turn right at the Tesco traffic lights. Right again at the next set of lights and the fishery is approximately 150 yards on your right just past the yellow house.
